What a wicked web we weave! |
FROM CAMERA TO COMPUTER
A digital camera provides instant feedback on the quality of your picture. Be sure to immediately view your compositions and change camera controls to improve desired results. Because there is no cost of film it is better to take more pictures in the here and now. Once you download your pictures to a computer you can view them in greater detail and delete the ones you don't want to keep.
Practice these steps and you'll quickly learn how to store pictures efficiently.
| 1. Turn your camera off and connect it to the class computer using USB cord. | |
| 2. Turn camera on. Click on My Computer and select your Camera. See the thumbnail versions of your pictures by changing the View of the camera's folder window. | |
| 3. Select different pictures to download by utilizing the Ctrl key + mouse click then Edit > Copy. | |
| 4. Select a destination on your computer by clicking on Folders on the toolbar or View>Go To. Choose My Documents or My Pictures. Create a new folder by right clicking on a blank space or select File>New>Folder. | |
| 5. Select Edit > Paste once the window address displays the desired folder. | |
| 6. Right click on each picture in order to Rename it. Be sure to include .jpg. |
SET UP A WEBSITE FOLDERS
A website is not a single file. It is a series of files organized in a single folder. The "code" of internet language connects all these files in a "web." Before you create a website of your pictures you should first create a folder that contains copies of all the pictures you want on that website. Use your My Documents window to create a new folder (right click, New>Folder). Edit>Copy pictures from their original location and Edit>Paste them into the new folder. This is your Source folder. Create another New>Folder on the same level as your pictures folder and rename it Website1. This is your Destination folder.
ELEMENTAL CORRECTIONS
Start PS Elements software. Go to File>Open to work on any picture (choose many by utilizing Ctrl key + mouse click). Let your mouse tame the lion of this software. Use tools on the palette to alter images with mouse motion. Steadying the mouse over a tool pops up a name. Use Toolbar menus like Windows > Help to guide your own experiments. Don't forget to look at the bottom row of your toolbar for each tool you are using.
|
CROP TOOL |
Draw a rectangle with your mouse to determine the size of the crop. Use edges to adjust. Click in center to confirm. Don't forget to try out the Rule of Thirds. Use toolbar dimensions to fix a specific height to width ratio. |
|
IMAGE MENU |
Explore the Image>Rotate and Image>Resize menus to change the orientation and size of the picture. |
|
FILE>SAVE FOR WEB |
Select File>Save for Web to change the compression of your image. The more you compress the quicker it will load but at a lesser quality. Right click on the bottom border of the web image to change downloading specs and data. Be sure to replace the old copy in your Source folder unless you want two copies of the same print. |
