Decide how to use your photos before you save your files. High quality photos require large file sizes. If you are printing out paper copies of your photos then you'll want the larger files to maintain quality. If you are using photos for email or the web then minimize the file size. The larger the file is the longer it'll take to transfer. When creating a New file be sure to set the resolution value according to previous criteria.
Try this week's Dance Step:
Did my wife enjoy her trek in Nepal?
| 1. Save the photo above to your network folder. |
|
|
| 2. Select the Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Fill Flash on the toolbar | ||
| 3. Adjust the scale's fulcrum for Lighter and Saturation | ||
| 4. Use the Selection Brush Tool and "paint" the dark areas of the face and shirt | ||
| 5. Repeat steps 2. & 3. |
Experiment with the Lasso tool, the Enhance > Adjust Color > Color Variations, and the How To Recipes in the Palette Well.
Finally, save your edited image in two different .jpg qualities. Observe the correlation between the file size and the graphical quality.
. . .before you admire some sunset views.
Taking photographs often require settings that highlight certain aspects of a composition. This shot below of Edinburgh Castle maximized the details in the shadows but lost the spectrum of yellows and oranges in the sunset. Try to recapture the colors of the sunset without sacrificing the city details.
Then observe the other side of the compass. Try to enhance the Dunnottar Castle's detail without making it look like it's own ghost.
Or would you prefer the evil eye treatment!
Utilize the Marquee, Lasso, and Magic Wand tools to recreate a personal rendition of the evil eye sticker (see link below). To start the process, click on File > New document and choose an appropriate size. Then go back to evileye.jpg and make a selection. Use the Move tool to drag a copy of your selection to the New document. Resize. Repeat for different selections. Resize, repeat, rinse.
