Practice using your own pictures (from your camera)

  1.  Turn your camera off and connect it to the class computer using USB cord.
  2.  Turn camera on.   Click on My Computer and select your Camera.  See the thumbnail versions of your pictures by changing the View of the camera's folder window.
  3.  Select different pictures to download by utilizing the Ctrl key + mouse click then Edit > Copy.
  4.  Select a destination on your computer by clicking on Folders on the toolbar or View>Go To.  Choose My Documents or My Pictures.  Create a new folder by right clicking on a blank space or select File>New>Folder.
  5.  Select Edit > Paste once the window address displays the desired folder.  Turn off your camera if you are done downloading.
  6.  Right click on each picture in order to Rename it.  Be sure to include .jpg.

Practice using sample pictures (from the web to your computer).

Find pictures from the internet.  Right click on the image you want and save it in your network folder (AccessCVU on G:\elements\#).  Also use pictures from the class folder.  If you make changes to the image be sure to Save As a different name in your # folder!

Practice using your own pictures (from your home computer to our network space).

Email your pictures from home to duncan@cvuhs.org or bring in a flash memory stick.

This Week's Dance Step

1.  Right click on the small picture.

2.  Select Save Picture As to your # folder.
3.  Left click on the small picture.
4.  Right click on the large picture.
5.  Select Save Picture As to your # folder.

6.  Use Elements software to open both images.

Experiment with the Toolbar, Palette, and Palette Well as you observe the different qualities of the original picture (richmondrrx.jpg) and its thumbnail (richmondrrxsmall.jpg).  Try to resize the picture so that it focuses primarily on Camel's Hump.  Examine the pixel quality of both pictures by zooming to the snow on the peak and the letters on the sign.  Utilize the Hints Palette Well to try other options under the Image and Enhance toolbar menus.

Observe picture quality, composition, and resolution.

Open the following image from the class images folder.  Find Camel's Hump in this picture by using the zoom, hand, and scroll bars.  Crop a fair range of Camel's Hump and Resize it to a 6" by 4".

Take off your training wheels by trying this.

Then try the Dark Side by visiting the Help menu on the toolbar.

Compare the quality of the scanned images to a close-up digital picture (Look In:  Access (g:)\accessimages\ref card pic.jpg).
