FROM HARDWARE TO SOFTWARE

Behold the digital powers you now possess as you organize folders, explore options for sharing.  Unless your last name's Iverson, then we're talking about practice in order to get better.

Practice these steps and you'll quickly learn how to store pictures efficiently.

  1.  Turn your camera off and connect it to the class computer using USB cord.
  2.  Turn camera on.   Click on My Computer and select your Camera.  See the thumbnail versions of your pictures by changing the View of the camera's folder window.
  3.  Select different pictures to download by utilizing the Ctrl key + mouse click then Edit > Copy.
  4.  Select a destination on your computer by clicking on Folders on the toolbar or View>Go To.  Choose My Documents or My Pictures.  Create a new folder by right clicking on a blank space or select File>New>Folder.
  5.  Select Edit > Paste once the window address displays the desired folder.  Turn off your camera if you are done downloading.
  6.  Right click on each picture in order to Rename it.  Be sure to include .jpg.

ORGANIZE YOUR FOLDER FOR A SLIDESHOW

Create copies of your pictures and Paste them into a new folder (right click, New>Folder).  Rename them numerically or alphabetically if you want them in a specific order.  Practice setting up at least two different folders for two different slide shows.

POST COPIES IN AN ONLINE STORAGE SITE FOR EASY SHARING

Digital images may be printed or viewed over a computer screen.  You can share your "magic moments" very easily with family and friends by setting up an account with an online photo server.  Go to www.thephotogarden.com or other digital photo sites and experience the flexibility of on-line services.  These services allow invited members to print or view slideshows of your albums.

CREATE A .PDF SLIDE SHOW

Create your own simple slideshow using the Elements or other picture viewing software.  In Elements, go to File > Automation Tools > Slide Show to launch a window that sets up the slide show.  Use the Browse button to find one of the slide show folders.  Select more than one image using Shift/Ctrl + click.  Observe that the Advanced button also allows you to compress.  Continue to experiment with the buttons to observe other options.  Be sure to set the Output File to your CD.

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A STRONGER POINT

Other software options like MS PowerPoint allow more control over transitions, content, and spacing.
